Miss Joy Christina Nugent was born in Jacksonville, Florida to two proud Christian parents and an older brother who had been praying for her arrival.

Joy grew up in the Central Florida area, and attended Forest Lake Academy. She graduated from Andrews University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and minors in Social Studies and Reading. Soon after graduation, Joy accepted God’s call to become a missionary and, for the past four years, she has been serving as a missionary teacher on the beautiful tropical island of Pohnpei, Micronesia.

While in Pohnpei, Joy has been involved in a number of activities. She has directed the school’s Christmas program, coached the high school debate team, directed the church’s children’s choir, and served as the school’s guidance counselor, curriculum coordinator, and reading specialist.

As a high school student, Joy had a love for service and outreach. She volunteered at various vacation bible schools, daycares, and even directed a music ensemble at a local Adventist elementary school for free. Her volunteer efforts earned her the Caring Heart Award and Freedom Scholarship in 2004.

Joy’s hobbies include traveling, playing the violin, reading her kindle, acting, and most importantly, spending time with God and her family. Moving to Maryland holds sentimental value for her because her older brother and his wife have lived in the area for the past five years and have recently welcomed a baby boy into the family; Joy’s very first nephew.

Joy is looking forward to starting the next chapter of her life at Frederick Adventist Academy and feels blessed to have this opportunity to impact the lives of God’s children.

Favorite Bible Passage: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” James 1:2-3
